As the daughter of Italian immigrants, attending college was a must for me as prompted by my parents. I attended San Diego State College, and while I didn’t struggle academically, my journey might have been different if I’d had a larger support system such as we’re doing with The Wesley House.
I became a teacher and spent 48 years in public education, first in the general classroom and then in Special Education. I know about the struggle for students who don’t have the skills for success in college.
In addition to serving on the WHSR board,I am the chair of the board of directors of the non-profit Charley Brown Children’s Center which is a mission of the United Church of Christ of La Mesa. I have been a member of that church for 49 years. I am also on the board of directors of Uptown Service Community Center which provides services for the homeless and low income persons.
I believe community service is at the heart of who we can be. I believe we are all meant to help each other.
